AMSG FC played their first ever USL League 2 game away at Coachella FC. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions and an intense away crowd, AMSG broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the game, when center forward Marco Bottene headed home a Mauro Rafael corner kick.
A second goal came shortly after, when AMSG broke the Coachella press with a sleek passing combination that started in the back line and ended in the net. Left winger Nicky Dunbar showcased some individual talent, too, pace-abusing two opponents down the left wing and rounding the Coachella goalkeeper before tucking it away into the empty net.
AMSG went on to dominate possession until the 35th minute, when another rapid-fire passing combination bounced into the path of Martin Garcia who blasted it into the roof of the net.
Despite going into the 2nd half with a three goal lead, AMSG kept up the pressure. The fruits of their labor came with another goal in the 66th minute, when Nicky Dunbar played it across the face of the goal for a Josh Lucas tap in.
The last 24 minutes of the game didn’t look any different than the previous 66. However, some consolation did come for the Coachella FC contingent when left winger Leyver Guzman took the ball in his stride and finished it near post in the 88th minute of the match. The Coachella crowd took to its feet and cheered loudly for the first goal in their club’s history.
The game ended 4-1.
